What are the Causes of Insomnia?

There are numerous reasons why a person can have insomnia. Several causes of insomnia include:

  • Physical
  • Psychological problems
  • Stress and Anxiety

The natural remedies for insomnia can help alleviate some of the stress and anxiety symptoms that arise from sleepness nights. Begin by programming your body for a regular sleep schedule every night. Establish a routine where you go to bed the same time each night. You may not be tired, but by going through this routine it will begin to create a pattern for your body to sleep. Try to keep the room cool because excessive heat will disturb your sleep patterns.

Avoid taking naps during the day and stay away from liquids before going to sleep which will minimize the amount of trips to the bathroom. If you do not have issues with liquids, try a small hot beverage. Avoid alcohol, tobacco, and caffeinated beverages. Although alcohol may help a person sleep, it will cause you to have irregular sleep patterns.

Natural Remedies for Insomnia

Some of the most commonly used Insomnia Natural Remedies are listed below:

  • Aromatherapy – The scent of lavender has been successful in assisting people fall asleep fast. Research has found that lavender has sedative qualities which cause our muscles to relax, increase our REM sleep (rapid eye movement) and improve our sleep pattern.
  • Melatonin – is a hormone that determines sleep times and regulates your circadian cycle. Melatonin comes in many different forms: Liquid, tablets, capsules, creams, lozenges and sub-lingual tablets forms. This should only be taken at night and the dose will vary for each individual.
  • Relaxing techniques – This is one of the most effective ways to alleviate insomnia. Stress relaxing techniques require a minimum of 30 minutes of your time before you go to sleep. They include yoga, meditation, progressive muscle relaxing and breathing techniques.
  • Music – Gentle, smooth, rhythmatic music is another natural remedy for insomnia. It has been found music can increase a person’s quality of sleep and decrease nightly wakenings.
  • Valerian - Valerian is an excellent herbal sedative that has none of the negative side effects of Valium and other synthetic sedatives. It works well in combination with other sedative herbs, such as California poppy, skullcap, hops, and passion flower. These herbs can be taken in extract form or capsules.

Effective Remedies and Techniques

There are specific and effective natural remedies for insomnia that can overcome anxiety and body tension. These insomnia remedies can relax the muscles and, as a result, allow a restful nights sleep. It will take practice and patience to implement these solutions in order to achieve the desired results.

Very impressive article on a topic I used to have a problem with. I like that you have included remedies that are natural not pharmaceutical. As a society we have way too many bottles in the bathroom.

I have been taking melatonin nightly. It seems to help. Otherwise I might be up all night. Thanks for your info.

I glad you were able to find a remedy that works. I have to fight it most nights and I use Yoga to help me through it. It helps me to relax.
