The word commitment implies discipline and finding the time to develop a regular practice. Yet another routine to fit into an already hectic schedule. The word commitment alone can be a promise that is complex and difficult to maintain. But wouldn’t it be wonderful to devote some time to slow down, take a deep breath, and release tension?

Once you begin to realize the benefits a yoga practice has on promoting well being and reducing stress than the discipline alone will not seem like a chore. The mind will begin to accept the yoga practice as part of your daily routine. You will begin to achieve more in each day when your mind is focused, your pulse is normal, your blood pressure is regulated, your muscles are more relaxed and your breathing pattern is steady. The more you allow yourself to be centered and balanced, the more empowered and successful you will become. All that is required is peace, quiet and commitment. It does not matter how out of shape or inflexible your maybe to begin with, your increased vitality will definitely lighten the schedule of your day.

Create a Plan

Reading is an excellent way to find out what yoga is all about. There are excellent yoga articles that explain the benefits and healing powers of this practice. The deeper your understanding of the yoga philosophy, the more you will be able to focus on how yoga can be of benefit to you. You can apply all you know to your own personalized program. However, over time the best way to learn is with a teacher who can give you proper guidance, answer your questions, and help you with postures. You can begin by committing yourself to a class once a week and perhaps make a plan to practice one or two half hour sessions at home. The most important objective is to practice regularly. Stick to a plan and soon the benefits will be obvious. Remember yoga is not about guilt. Some yoga is better than no yoga. No two bodies are alike and no particular technique is suitable for everyone. You may need to experiment for a while with different styles of teaching until you find your own particular path.

Balance and Harmony

If you make the choice to practice regularly, not only will your body become more flexible but also your mind. As we open our minds to the philosophy of yoga, we become open up to life’s possibilities. We learn to let go of the past and leave the baggage behind. Resistance will then break down and new energy can flow into those empty spaces. Ultimately, with patience, commitment and discipline, you will change your mindset which will lead to changes in your body.
